The Strategic Technology Agenda (STA) is based upon previous work undertaken by the SI Ocean consortium on wave and tidal energy technology assessment, thus bringing it to a close by highlighting strategic actions aimed at the commercialisation of wave and tidal technologies. Starting with an overview of the sector in the form of a Technology Status report, the project progressed with an outline of current wave and tidal energy costs. Future cost-reduction pathways were then identified, together with an assessment of anticipated cost-reduction trends. The means of achieving cost-reduction pathways were also presented in the SI Ocean Cost of Energy report.
The Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, the University of Edinburgh and The Carbon Trust have prepared the Strategic Technology Agenda (STA) outlining opportunities and steps to overcome challenges identified by the SI Ocean Gaps and Barriers report, identifying the path to a commercially viable and integrated ocean energy industry.
