EnFAIT
Enabling future Arrays in Tidal
The EnFAiT project was a €20.2 million European programme that aimed to increase the commercial viability of tidal power. The project involved a consortium of nine leading industrial, academic and research organisations, led by the Scots tidal energy firm Nova Innovation. The project ran from July 2017 to June 2023, and was a flagship initiative for the EU and the marine energy sector. It was awarded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme to develop marine energy sources and demonstrate technologies in European waters. It extend the existing Bluemull Sound array to six turbines, and demonstrated that high array reliability and availability can be achieved using best practice maintenance regimes. It is hoped that the project will help the emerging technology develop into a standalone industrial manufacturing sector with a strong European supply chain, and make significant technological advances while lowering costs.
