Support to SET Plan Implementation Working Group and European Technology and Innovation Platform for Ocean Energy
To address the growing demand for efficient, clean and renewable energy sources, Europe is exploring new innovations and advancements. The EU-funded MAXBlade project aims to significantly boost tidal energy production through the development of a solution that offers a 70 % increase in rotor swept area while providing improved reliability, monitoring, maintenance and control. The project will take a holistic approach and develop multiple technologies while promoting a circular economy to reach net zero generation. The achievement of this goal could provide the EU with a competitive advantage in tidal blade manufacturing, production, and efficiency.

- Identify priority technology development areas and update the Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda (SRIA). This work will review the priority topics for research and technology development, in consultation with a Technology Working Group consisting of ocean energy stakeholders, including device & project developers, supply chain actors, funders and researchers. Following this, a revised SRIA will be produced. It will outline the technological priority areas, objectives and actions to encourage the commercialisation of ocean energy in Europe. The SRIA will include a development plan identifying the projects needed to deliver the EU Offshore Renewables Strategy 2030 target.
- Map out infrastructure and industrial production requirements for 2030s deployments. This study will review infrastructure requirements, focusing on ports and harbours, required to support the roll-out of wave and tidal energy through the 2030s ad beyond.
