Wave Energy Programme archives

The UK Department of Energy funded research into wave energy between 1974 and 1983 under its Wave Energy Programme. The programme’s goals were to assess the feasibility and cost of energy of wave generated electricity for the UK grid. The Energy Technology Support Unit (ETSU) was responsible to assess the possible contribution of wave energy to the UK energy supply. This collection contains 97 reports based on the projects funded by the Wave Energy Programme. The reports in this Collection include a wide range of topics such as device designs, resource, economic assessment, and moorings.

Within the UK Wave Energy Programme, several device teams were funded including the Edinburgh Wave Power Project, which developed the Edinburgh Duck. This archive Community contains unpublished information from the Edinburgh Wave Energy Project, and information and reports from the Wave Energy Programme at a UK level, including the Edinburgh reports for ETSU. There are a total of 31 items in this collection.

How to explore the archives:
You can search, browse and filter documents held in the Wave Energy collections in the Edinburgh Research Archive.

To search for a specific term you can use the ‘Search within this Collection’ text box which is found above the collection image, or in a secondary box in the top left of the interface. The search indexes will look for the specific term in the items metadata field, for example Title, Abstract, Publisher, Date, Author. The individual documents have also been OCR’d which allows searching within the PDF documents.

You can browse documents in the collection by Issue Date, Author, Titles, Subjects and Publication Type. The browse interface is found on the right hand side of the screen, and is also replicated above the image on the Collection homepage. Subject keywords have been allocated to documents so you can browse by a broad theme that you are interested in, e.g. Moorings or Economic Assessment.
